Manchester City refuse to let Craig Bellamy join Tottenham Hotspur as Fulham, Everton & Newcastle United hover - report

What a game this is to kick off the new Premier League season. Roberto Mancini’s billionaires head to White Hart Lane still smarting from their late defeat at the hands of Spurs at Eastlands in May. That result condemned City to another season in the Europa League while Harry Redknapp completed his amazing transformation of Spurs from relegation contenders to Champions League qualifiers in less than two seasons.

Games between these two tend to throw up a number of goals. In fact, there have only been two goalless draws between the two sides at White Hart Lane since the end of the Second World War.

City will need to come out of the blocks firing on all cylinders as their recent record in north London is pretty dire. They have only managed one win at White Hart Lane in the Premier League era. However, Spurs have an appalling record when it comes to the first game of the season. Last year’s home victory against Liverpool was only the second time in 13 seasons that they have started a campaign with a win.
Both sides have grand designs of becoming regular features in the top four and have quality running right through their squads. Harry has a good nucleus of English players at his disposal while Mancini has been busy splashing the cash in the summer on a number of foreign nationals.
